Moving Onward & Upward: Encouraging Quotes & Playlists For Your Season Of Breakup

Needing some pick-me-up while learning how to love yourself again after a breakup? What is the longest relationship you've had? More specifically, romantic; but you could probably throw in friendships into this as well because, frankly, friendship breakups suck just as much! This post is dedicated to all of us who are hurting, healing, and learning to love ourselves for who we truly are.

I've always resonated with online quotes from others and, even though some of them seem cliché, the older I get and the more I experience in life they are FINALLY starting to make more sense (maybe that's just something about 30s lol). 🤪 We as humans need connection and sometimes that connection is through online friends and strangers going through similar things. We truly are never alone.

Recently my longest relationship of four years has ended and I learned A LOT about myself.

I wanted to share a playlist I created on Spotify that I labeled "Moving Onward & Upward." Check it out by clicking the hyperlink! Let me know what songs you think could be added! These songs are a quite the mixture - I mean, of course, because there are so many emotions! Of course they're not all relevant to my recent breakup but also from past relationships, including friendships. A lot of them, though, are to help you feel better about who you are and be unashamed and unapologetically yourself! The right people will come to you. 🥰

Here is a preview of some of the songs in the playlist:

  • "Better" - Meghan Trainor, Yo Gotti

  • "Fighting For Me" - Riley Clemmons

  • "I'm Good" - Wafia

  • "Look Up" - Joy Oladokun

  • "Miss Me More" - Kelsea Ballerini

  • "Better Man" - Little Big Town

  • "Rise Up" - Andra Day

  • "Step Into My Power" - Modern Headspace

  • "You Got This" - Love & The Outcome

Through counseling and my walk of faith I have had wonderful guidance on how to love myself again. My counselor encouraged me to make a list of ALL the things that bring me peace and joy - and the more of the senses it includes the better it is for your soul and nervous system. For instance, my list includes:

  1. Take in the morning sunshine while listening to one of my favorite songs, "With You (Paradoxology)" by Elevation Worship while stretching for the day.

  2. Playing a game with my kiddo, family, and/or friends while building memories and laughing together.

  3. Enjoying a delicious meal at a table setting with loved ones. Or even baking and cooking together for said meal.

  4. (This one might be underrated) Take a nice hot shower with ZERO time limit and no interruptions while having music on and using an essential oil of my choice for a more invigorating sense of calm and relaxation.

  5. Going to church and spending that time in worship and learning different points of view on God and life.

I think you get the point by now. When you start to feel the darkness coming and need that light pick up this list and do one of the things or even a part of one of your favorite things. Add to it as you learn. What is one of those things you'd add to your list today?

Want to build your self esteem back? Here is a free printable for you! My counselor shared it with me and she said, at the very least, every day answer the last question. Make it a habit - it works! Self Esteem Daily Journaling Worksheet

Another resource you might enjoy is the "Believe" app. You can download it here for your daily affirmations and to help you build that positive mindset!

Also, here are some motivational, inspiring, encouraging, and uplifting images and quotes you can print off and put on your mirror or in your car as reminders; save for your phone; use as screen savers, wallpapers, etc. PS: Don't mind the mixture of bad words and Biblical references - I love Jesus but I cuss A LOT!

Send me your songs and quotes that help you get through the toughest of times. 🤗 Come back as needed and see if any new ones have been added.
